Can you believe that tomorrow is the first day of March? That means that St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner! While running errands I have been grabbing some little things for the kids. So far I found rainbow nerd ropes, gold chocolate coins, t shirts and some fun lip gloss. Of course the kids will also be getting some new shoes! You can read more about that tradition here.

green shoes

Every year the leprechauns leave the children brand new shoes (preferably green) with a few treats tucked inside. He leaves them right outside of their bedrooms. This morning I heard my daughter say "thank you, leprechauns." And as she showed her brother her new shoes she asked him "aren't they so beautiful?" It was priceless. You can read more about our tradition here. This year I also found this great book to go with it. I hope the leprechauns left you some fun surprises too!

leprechauns
I created some fun traditions for my children for St. Patrick's Day that I thought I would share with you. After my children go to bed on March 16 I use this technique to make small green footprints all around our house. I used to do this in my classroom when I was teaching and the children always loved the magic of it! All day they would try to figure out who could have left such tiny footprints. I use green acrylic paint and only put the footprints on places that will be easy to clean after St. Patrick's Day is over....like counter tops and windows. And, since leprechauns are cobblers, they leave the kids new shoes (preferably green) outside their bedroom doors, filled with gold coins and other little treats. Although these traditions certainly are not of Irish origin, I had fun creating them for my kids. Do leprechauns ever visit your house? I would love to hear all about your St. Patrick's Day traditons too.
