weekend in pictures

We had such an amazing and wonderful holiday weekend filled with good food, family and friends! We are truly blessed and have so much to be thankful for.

We started Thanksgiving morning with some turkey! I made some waffles and apple slices into the shape of a turkey. The kids loved it.

We watched the parade and set the table. My mom leant us her beautiful green and gold plates which I wanted to highlight on the table.  I like a clean look so I used the pumpkins I painted gold and some small gold votive candles.  I put the silverware in some gold polka dot paper bags.

The kids got dressed up and my daughter even requested to have her hair curled!

We ate delicious food and were thrilled to have family with us to share it.

On Friday we went with some friends to cut down our Christmas tree! It was a beautiful, cold evening and the sun was just about to set.

I made some homemade cocoa and brought cups, whipped cream, sprinkles, candy canes and some peppermint schnapps for the grownups.  It really hit the spot!

On Saturday we took all three kids to see Frozen! It was really fun. We also took them out for dinner which was a fun treat.  On Sunday we put up the tree and decorated it and also had some friends come visit from NY. We made a big pot of Irish stew and lit the fire. It was wonderful.

We also took out and started our Advent calendar. It's hard to believe that December is already here!

I hope that all of you had a lovely weekend with good food, family and friends too!

the fair

This weekend we went to our local country fair.  We rode on some rides.

And, tried all sorts of yummy treats!

I can't believe today is the last day of September! I have started to pull out all of my Halloween decorations.  Check back later in the week to see some of them.  Happy Monday!

happy fall

I love fall in Connecticut. It's one of the most beautiful times of year.  The trees are already beautiful shades of orange and red and the mornings start out cool and crisp.  With fall comes my love for baking and I've been busy in the kitchen making apple crisp, pumpkin bread, pumpkin scones, gingersnaps to name a few!  Here are a few snapshots from our weekend that I posted on Instagram.

On Friday I went apple picking with my little guy.  He loved it!  There is a huge pick your own farm and market less than mile from our house.  We go as often as we can.

I tried a recipe for pumpkin scones that I had found on Pinterest.http://www.pinterest.com/pin/235735361718784648/  They weren't as sweet as I would have liked.

We had a digger parked in front of our house all weekend (we are putting in new leeching fields) and all three children enjoyed climbing on it.  I loved the contrast of my daughter, dressed in a leotard and tutu, "driving" an enormous construction vehicle.  That's my girl!

And, now that it is cold out, I find myself making cups of tea throughout the day.  My little guy snuck a sip of my green tea and seemed to like it!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend as well and that wherever you live, you are enjoying the start of  Autumn too.

This past weekend we were invited by some friends to spend the weekend in Martha's Vineyard!!!  We had the most amazing time.

We saw a parade!

Did a little shopping.

Had fun at the beach.

And saw the sights.

We can't wait to go back!

haunted candy houses

We had another busy weekend and were hit with the stomach bug AGAIN.  On Friday it was a wet and rainy day in Connecticut so, I thought it would be fun for the kids to decorate their haunted candy houses.  They loved it.  This year we decided to put them on display along with our fine china.

On Sunday (despite some of us not feeling great) we decided to make a quick trip to the pumpkin patch.  It was a perfect fall day and the patch is literally two minutes from our house.  The fresh air made us all feel a little better.  I feel so blessed to live in such a gorgeous part of our state.  Sometimes I wish I could bottle up these crisp mornings and warm days, the golden leaves and crisp apples.  I hope that you all had a nice weekend full of fun and good health!

weekend fun

We had a very busy weekend.  On Saturday, I helped run a tag sale to raise money for my son's cooperative nursery school.  On Sunday, we went to see the Monet Exhibit at the New York Botanical Gardens.  Monet has always been one of my favorite artists and I was excited to go see this exhibit and share it with my children. It was an easy drive to NY and although it was cold and rainy we enjoyed our visit.  We saw beautiful flowers and two of Monet's paintings as well as one of his palettes.

Yesterday my mom and I took the children to see the fairy houses at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut.  If you live anywhere near this place I suggest you take a visit.  The children LOVED it and so did we.  So many fun details from tiny swings to a fairy Ferris wheel.  It has inspired us to try and make our own fairy house.  Hope you had as much fun this weekend as we did!
