april fools

In honor of the first day of April I served the children lunch in tiny lunchboxes!  They thought it was hysterical and asked if I could make it for them again.  I just put some mini cupcake liners in the metal lunchboxes than cut sandwiches in to tiny triangles, and added some baby carrots and pretzels.  Next time I want to put some baby goldfish in too!  For dessert they had tiny ice cream cones!  SO cute.  Even the baby had one.  For dinner I am making ice cream potatoes.  You can find the directions here.  Hope you enjoyed some giggles today too!

somewhere over the rainbow

My daughter had another play date yesterday so I created a fun St. Patrick's Day menu for lunch.  I made these rainbow fruit sewers and added some fun rainbow ribbon to make them even more special.  The kids also had shamrock shaped sandwiches (that I cut using a cookie cutters) some rainbow goldfish and green limeade for their drink.  For dessert they had some shamrock shaped sugar cookies.  These fruit skewers are perfect for a school party or a top of the mornin' breakfast tomorrow.

watermelon whale

Last week my daughter had her pre-school graduation and I signed up to bring watermelon. Since her school mascot is a whale I thought it would be fun to carve the watermelon into the shape of a whale.  I found the directions in the book "Summer" by Susan Branch.  It was actually quite simple to do and the kids got a kick out of it.  This is a great thing to bring to a potluck or BBQ because you can throw away (or compost) the watermelon when the fruit salad is all gone!
