the fair

This weekend we went to our local country fair.  We rode on some rides.

And, tried all sorts of yummy treats!

I can't believe today is the last day of September! I have started to pull out all of my Halloween decorations.  Check back later in the week to see some of them.  Happy Monday!

happy fall

I love fall in Connecticut. It's one of the most beautiful times of year.  The trees are already beautiful shades of orange and red and the mornings start out cool and crisp.  With fall comes my love for baking and I've been busy in the kitchen making apple crisp, pumpkin bread, pumpkin scones, gingersnaps to name a few!  Here are a few snapshots from our weekend that I posted on Instagram.

On Friday I went apple picking with my little guy.  He loved it!  There is a huge pick your own farm and market less than mile from our house.  We go as often as we can.

I tried a recipe for pumpkin scones that I had found on Pinterest.http://www.pinterest.com/pin/235735361718784648/  They weren't as sweet as I would have liked.

We had a digger parked in front of our house all weekend (we are putting in new leeching fields) and all three children enjoyed climbing on it.  I loved the contrast of my daughter, dressed in a leotard and tutu, "driving" an enormous construction vehicle.  That's my girl!

And, now that it is cold out, I find myself making cups of tea throughout the day.  My little guy snuck a sip of my green tea and seemed to like it!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend as well and that wherever you live, you are enjoying the start of  Autumn too.

that's a wrap

Hope everyone is off to a great school year.  It has definitely taken some adjusting to having two in full time school with two lunches to make, homework, parents night, field trips, and extra curricular activities!  I feel like we are finally getting into a routine.
I often get asked for gift ideas for girls, especially from mom's of little boys!  I always tell them you can't go wrong with crafts.  I also love to give books to girls and boys and often pick a theme just around them!  This was for a little girl who turned seven.  We gave her a copy of the book "Crafty Chloe" and then included a doodle book, some crayons/crayon holder, and an oversized chipboard letter to decorate.  This book would also be perfect to go with a handmade gift for the recipient.

that's a wrap

This was a gift I gave to my sister in law for her birthday this past weekend.  The main gift was a gift certificate to StubHub.  I didn't even know that you could get gift certificates from StubHub until a friend gave me the idea last weekend.  This allows the recipient to choose tickets to a play, concert, or comedy show.  Since my sister in law lives near New York City I put the gift certificate in an apple shaped gift bag.  I also tucked in some stickers and an Essie nail polish called "wicked" as a nod to the musical.  My sister in law loved this gift and thought it was a great idea and something that she would copy in the future.  Hopefully you will think so too!

taco dip with a twist

We had a very busy, but fun long weekend that was filled with friends and family.  For one party the host was serving a make your own taco salad bar.  I decided to bring a layered taco dip and put it in an oversized margarita glass for fun.  I even added a slice of lime to the side of the glass.  You can find this margarita glass at Michael's craft store.  They also carry oversized champagne and martini glasses which are also very fun for holding all sorts of food/decorations at parties.  Hope you all had a nice long weekend too!
